Four women found dead: Is a serial killer lurking in Kempton Park?

Police have launched a specialised investigation after four women were found dead in Kempton Park over the past two months, sparking fears that a serial killer could be operating in the area.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said officers discovered the latest victim on Saturday evening, 12 September.

Investigators have identified similarities between the four deaths. The women were found partially naked, had visible bruising and were discovered in the same general area.

However, police have not confirmed that the cases are linked or that a serial killer is responsible.

SAPS has urged the public not to speculate while detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding each death.

SAPS steps up investigation

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane ordered Gauteng police to establish a multidisciplinary task team to probe the deaths.

Specialist detectives from the Murder and Robbery Unit and Investigative Psychology Unit will form part of the investigation.

Gauteng Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo will oversee the team.

Detectives will now examine the circumstances surrounding each death, including whether the same person or group could be responsible.

Warning issued to women

SAPS has urged women in and around Rhodesfield to take extra precautions, particularly when walking or exercising alone.

Police advised residents to avoid isolated areas and travel in groups where possible.

“The safety of women remains a priority for SAPS, and the police will not wait for further incidents before taking decisive action,” SAPS said.

Officers have also appealed to residents, motorists and private security personnel who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
