Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian military's (TNI's) Jakarta Military Police Command has detained an Army officer over an alleged online gambling operation at an Army housing complex in East Jakarta.

The detention follows an investigation into suspected online gambling activities at the Army Housing Complex (KPAD) in Cijantung, East Jakarta, according to TNI Spokesman Maj. Gen. Muhammad Nas.

“He was detained for questioning by the Jakarta Military Police Command at the official residence he occupied,” Nas told reporters in Jakarta on Friday.

The officer, identified as Lt. Col. Arman, serves as head of intelligence at the Jakarta Permanent Garrison (Gartap 1/Jakarta).

Nas said military police were still investigating the officer's alleged involvement in the online gambling case.

The Army previously disclosed suspected online gambling operations at a house in the Cijantung complex on Sunday, October 4.

Army Information Service Chief Brig. Gen. Donny Pramono said the investigation began after a report of suspicious activity at a house in the complex.

“After receiving the information, personnel from the East Jakarta Military District Command, together with local officials, visited the site and secured the premises and evidence for further investigation,” Donny said.

During an inspection, officers found computers in several rooms that were suspected of being used to operate the online gambling system.

Eleven civilians — six men and five women — were detained at the house and taken to a military police detachment for questioning.

“We also seized 32 computers, 14 mobile phones and nine identity cards,” Donny said.

Donny said the Army was committed to preventing the misuse of its facilities for illegal activities.

“The Army will not allow facilities under its control to be used for illegal activities that harm the public,” he said.

The military is continuing to investigate others linked to the use of the house and the activities uncovered there.
