Romualdez leaves PGH, to be transferred to QC jail

MANILA, Philippines — Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez left the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Monday and will be transferred to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory as ordered by the Sandiganbayan.
During the hearing on Romualdez’s health condition on Monday, Sandiganbayan Third Division Associate Justice Karl Miranda announced the court order after PGH Director Dr. Gerardo Legazpi said that Romualdez can be discharged from the hospital at any time for being medically stable.

Romualdez said that he respects the anti-graft court’s decision, but maintained that he is innocent of the plunder charges against him.

Romualdez was transferred to the PGH from Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City last Saturday to undergo an independent medical assessment as ordered by the Sandiganbayan.
Romualdez was confined at Cardinal Santos Medical Center after an arrest warrant for plunder in relation to the P7.44-billion plunder case was issued last Monday.
His co-accused in the case are former lawmaker Zaldy Co and two others.
