Zimbabwean coach Simbarashe Gondo has been appointed as the new head coach of South African ABC Motsepe League side Baroka FC.

Gondo takes charge of the Limpopo-based club after previously coaching fellow ABC Motsepe League outfit Ngwaabe City Motors.

Baroka recently confirmed the appointment as the club prepares for its campaign in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.

The club welcomed Gondo, who is also known as “Coach Simba”, as its new head coach in an announcement on social media.

“Baroka FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Simbarashe ‘Coach Simba’ Gondo as our new Head Coach,” the club said.

“Let’s give him the warmest Mošate welcome as we build the next chapter together.”

Gondo now faces the task of guiding Baroka in the competitive Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.

His appointment also continues the presence of Zimbabwean coaches in South African football, where several Zimbabwean tacticians have worked across different levels of the domestic game.

Gondo takes over after Ngwaabe City Motors stint

Before joining Baroka, Gondo was in charge of Ngwaabe City Motors, another club competing in the ABC Motsepe League.

His move to Baroka gives him an opportunity to continue his coaching career in South Africa while taking charge of a club with a notable name in Limpopo football.

Baroka FC have previously competed at higher levels of South African football, including the Premier Soccer League, but currently find themselves in the third tier of the country’s football pyramid.

Gondo will therefore be tasked with helping the club achieve its ambitions as they compete in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League.

The new coach will be hoping to make an immediate impact at Baroka and use the opportunity to strengthen his reputation in South African football.

For the Zimbabwean coach, the appointment represents another step in his coaching career across the border.
