Deputy Senate President sacks aide over social media post against Kano governor

Translate

The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has terminated the appointment of one of his aides, Umar Alhassan, over social media posts deemed anti-party activities and disrespectful to the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf.

The decision was announced in an official statement issued on behalf of Mr Jibrin by his media aide, Shitu Madaki.

According to Mr Madaki, the action followed a series of online writings and social media commentaries by Mr Alhassan—popularly known as “King Indara”—including posts declaring that Governor Yusuf “must go.”

The statement noted that Mr Alhassan’s posts were considered “disrespectful and lacking in decorum” toward the governor.

Furthermore, his conduct was described as inimical to the interests of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and as breaching Mr Jibrin’s directive on party unity.

“Such conduct is considered contrary to the values and upbringing of the Deputy President of the Senate, as well as the principles of the APC, particularly his directive to support and uphold the party from the national level down to the grassroots,” the statement read.

”Consequently, Mr Alhassan’s appointment as Senior Legislative Assistant (SLA) in the Office of the Deputy President of the Senate was terminated with effect from September 18, 2026”, the announcement stated.

In response, Mr Alhassan thanked Mr Jibrin for the opportunity he gave him as a Northern youth to serve as his aide.

“You believed in me and trusted me. This is a matter of great pride for me, and this opportunity you provided has opened many opportunities for me. I will never forget this kindness. I pray that Allah rewards you with goodness, protects you, and preserves your position.

“I hereby inform the general public that I have accepted my ‘relief’ from duty as an aide to Senator Barau I. Jibrin (Maliya), and I have embraced it wholeheartedly with complete faith and acceptance.
“This is not the end of the journey—politics is a long-distance road. I will continue to contribute my quota toward the progress of the youth and the community at large”, Mr Alhassan stated in a Hausa statement posted on Facebook.
