Flores confirms prosec manifested dropping bribery article vs VP Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — The prosecution panel for Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial has dropped Article III of the Articles of Impeachment or the allegations that she bribed different officials of the Department of Education, public prosecutor and Bukidnon Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores said.

Flores in a press briefing on Friday said that they have filed the manifestation before the Senate Impeachment Court last Tuesday, stating that they will no longer present evidence for Article III.

According to Flores, the team leader for Article III, the reason is because including Article III will no longer fit their timetable.

“We already filed a manifestation last Tuesday pa, that we will dropping bribery.  So it’s already filed with… I think Tuesday pa, sa manifestation namin, nando’n na.  So the team already came to a decision that we will end with Article II,” Flores said.

With the decision, only three articles remain:

  • Article I or allegations that confidential funds within Duterte’s offices were misused
  • Article II or the supposed unexplained wealth and non-disclosure in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth
  • Article IV, grave threats against ranking officials of the government

The prosecution has finished with Article I and Article IV, and is looking to wrap up Article II by the second week of October. /jpv
