Erling Haaland has given Manchester City the lead against Manchester United after his goal was ruled to be not offside in the derby at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Haaland put Josko Gvardiol’s cross into the back of the net in the 60th minute, but the goal was immediately flagged by the linesman. However, he was ruled not to be offside after a lengthy VAR check.
Replays showed that Patrick Dorgu’s attempts to block the cross brought the offside line forward sufficiently to bring Haaland onside. A secondary check confirmed that a diving Enzo Fernandes had failed to get a touch on the ball. If he had, Haaland would have been offside.
Manchester City is currently down to 10 men after Phil Foden was shown a red card for violent conduct in the first half.
