Pride of Rivers chase unbeaten run amid fixture congestion

Translate

The unbeaten Pride of Rivers will play their third match in six days when they host the Lagos-based outfit at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday, October 4, in the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Finidi George’s side faced Ranchers Bees on Monday before travelling to Katsina United on Wednesday, and the punishing schedule will test their squad depth and fitness once again.

Even so, the Port Harcourt club remain unbeaten in the 2026/27 campaign, with three wins and three draws from six matches. Those results have lifted them to second place with 12 points, one behind leaders Rangers.

Their latest outing finished 1-1 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. Samson Olasupo put them ahead shortly after the break, but a deflected free-kick from Sani Mubarak, a former midfielder of the club, levelled matters for the hosts.

The visitors also played in midweek, holding Sporting Lagos to a 0-0 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. That left them with eight points from six games, built on two wins, two draws and two defeats.

The meeting pairs two sides eager to strengthen their early-season positions. The home team will aim to protect their record, while the visitors hope to leave Port Harcourt with a positive result. With both teams coming off midweek action, rotation, stamina and efficiency could prove decisive.
