‘We will take back the House in 2028’: US House Speaker Johnson promises Republican comeback

Translate

US House Speaker Mike Johnson has vowed that Republicans will fight back after Democrats made major gains in the 2026 midterm elections, taking control of the Senate and putting the House within reach.

Speaking to supporters in Shreveport, Louisiana, Johnson acknowledged his disappointment but urged Republicans not to be discouraged by the results. "Republicans will not be deterred by the outcome of one election. In fact, you know what we do? We double down. We double down," Johnson said.

He also promised to continue pursuing the Republican agenda and predicted a comeback in the next election cycle.

"We will continue pressing forward with our agenda of commonsense and our vision to make America great again. And come 2028, we will take back the House and we will finish this job, all right?" he told supporters.
