Stray dogs turn parked cars into their personal beds

PHETCHABUN — 16 September 2026, A group of stray dogs has left car owners scratching their heads after repeatedly climbing onto parked vehicles to nap on their roofs at a public parking area in Lom Sak district.

Photos and video of the dogs were shared online by a Facebook user who was visiting the Tai Lom Walking Street in Lom Sak district.

The post carried a warning to motorists parking in the area, saying: “Be careful if you park in front of the district office. At first, I thought they were cats.”

The images showed several dogs lying on the roofs of parked cars, including white and black sedans. One black car had muddy paw prints across its windshield and roof.

A check of the area found that the parking lot in question is located in front of Lom Sak Police Station. Local residents commonly refer to the area as “in front of the district office.”

Chinnakorn, who runs a made-to-order food shop near the parking area, said around five or six stray dogs regularly stayed in the area.

He said the dogs could often be seen climbing onto car roofs during the day, while on other days they would sleep underneath parked vehicles.

The behavior shown in the video was genuine, he said, adding that three or four dogs could sometimes be seen lying on a car together.

Local residents have tried to chase the dogs away, but the animals usually return and climb onto the vehicles again.

It remains unclear whether the dogs have caused any damage to the cars, as each vehicle would need to be inspected individually.

Motorists parking in the area have been advised to check around and underneath their vehicles before driving away, as dogs may be hiding underneath cars.

Drivers should also check for muddy paw prints, scratches or other possible damage after leaving their vehicles parked.
