Glastonbury tickets sold out within just 42 minutes of going on sale as hundreds of thousands of Britons rushed to get a spot.

Tickets for next year's festival went online at 9am on Sunday - but fans received messages as early as 9.42am that they were sold out, leaving many devastated.

It comes after organisers brought in a new queuing system that was hoped to make the process fairer as each registered attendee would only get one place in the line.

Fans had to complete a CAPTCHA test and then enter a unique registration number before they entered the queue.

This meant people couldn't join the line on multiple devices or tabs open in an attempt to beat others to festival tickets.

According to vendor See Tickets: 'Tickets for Glastonbury Festival 2027 are now SOLD OUT.

'Confirmation emails are going out now. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets this morning and sorry to those who missed out.'

But Glastonbury hopefuls were left fuming with the new process as thousands missed out bagging tickets for next year's festival from June 23-27.

One person wrote on X: 'I mean it's great tickets are being sold but there's needs to be some transparency too. Did everything asked.

'Got in the waiting room before 08:50. Stuck on 2 bars How are the queue places allocated. Random? First come first served. All cloak and dagger.'

Another said: 'We didn't get Glastonbury festival tickets. Absolutely gutted.

'But as a consolation prize, we've just booked Boomtown tickets which we are absolutely stoked about. Did anyone else get lucky?'

A third wrote: 'The dreaded year has arrived where I didn't get Glastonbury tickets. I'm in a period of mourning do not speak to me.'
