Christina Applegate Shares Health Update, Vows to Keep Fighting for MS Community: “I Will Speak Out on Your Behalf Forever”
Despite being misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis, commonly referred to as MS, Christina Applegate says she will continue to be a “warrior” for the community.
On Tuesday’s episode of Applegate and co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s MeSsY podcast, Applegate reflected on her recent revelation that she doesn’t have MS, saying she’ll keep advocating for those living with the disease.
“Even though I don’t have this disease, I’ve fallen in love with everyone that we know, our listeners, our friends that have MS. I’m still your warrior, and I’m still going to speak out on your behalf forever and ever. Despite not having MS, I still feel like part of this community. No matter what, I love you,” the Married… with Children star said.
In 2021, Applegate revealed she had been diagnosed with MS. She retired from acting in 2022 following the finale of the Netflix series Dead to Me. Since then, the 54-year-old actress has advocated for the MS community and launched the MeSsY podcast with Sopranos star Sigler, who was diagnosed with MS in 2001.
Last week, however, Applegate announced that she recently learned she was misdiagnosed. “You don’t get misdiagnosed, and then all of a sudden, I’m better,” she said on MeSsY. “I haven’t gotten better, Jamie. If anything, I’ve gotten worse in some ways. So I’m back at square one where I don’t know what’s going on with me, and that’s going to be an online investigation that my doctors are going to get into to find out what has been happening since 2021.”
Elsewhere in this week’s MeSsY episode, Applegate also shared an update on her health, describing the symptoms of what she believes may be another undiagnosed illness.
“I actually timed it today; it took me 10 minutes to be able to move off my pillow and get out of the bed and stand up, at which point I almost couldn’t walk to the bathroom, and now a walker is sitting next to my bed because of what’s going on. I don’t know what’s going on,” Applegate said. “This is what I’m still living with, and I never had that before. I was able to sit up and stuff.”
She added that she recently lost “too much” weight and said, “I don’t know what’s going on.”
“The more you lose in your face, the older you look. Like, the jowls are more pronounced now than they were before because it’s all hollow and I just look older,” she explained.
