Akor Adams nets first Serie A goal

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams opened his league goalscoring account for the campaign, but his effort was not enough as newly promoted Venezia suffered a 4-2 defeat to Fiorentina at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on Friday night.

Adams put Venezia in front in the first half after making an intelligent movement to create space before receiving a pass from Gianluca Busio.

The Nigerian striker kept his composure when the opportunity arrived, calmly firing the ball into the net to give the home side the lead.

However, Venezia could not protect their advantage as Fiorentina turned the game around, with Franco Mastantuono scoring a hat-trick and Mateo Pellegrino also getting on the scoresheet.

Despite the defeat, Adams continued his encouraging start to life with Venezia and has now registered three goals and one assist in six appearances across all competitions since joining the Italian club.

The 26-year-old completed his move to Venezia during the summer transfer window after an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Sevilla.

Adams was particularly influential at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan last season, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 32 league appearances.

His goalscoring contributions proved valuable as Sevilla battled to avoid relegation, with his clinical and decisive displays helping the club pick up crucial points and escape a drop to the Segunda Division.

Adams will now be hoping to carry that goalscoring momentum into the Serie A campaign as he continues his development and looks to establish himself in Italian football.

For Venezia, however, Friday’s defeat leaves them searching for a response as they continue their first season back among Italy’s top-flight clubs.
