San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling will miss at least a month because of an ankle injury, sources told NFL Network.
Stribling suffered the injury in San Francisco's season-opening victory Thursday against the Los Angeles Rams. Sources described the injury as a deltoid ligament sprain to Stribling's left ankle.
Stribling might ultimately need surgery, according to sources, although his recovery plan was uncertain as of Sunday morning.
Stribling suffered the non-contact injury in the second quarter of Thursday's game in Australia and did not return to the contest.
Niners coach Kyle Shanahan indicated after the game that Stribling avoided an Achilles tear but said the team needed to conduct further medical tests to determine a specific diagnosis.
San Francisco selected Stribling with the first pick of the second round (No. 33 overall) in this year's draft. The former Ole Miss star had a strong training camp and earned a big role in the offense entering the season.
