Melaka polls: 3,452 policemen to be deployed on polling day

ALOR GAJAH: A total of 3,452 police personnel will be deployed across Melaka on Nov 14 to ensure public order and security during polling for the state election.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the deployment would include about 1,500 personnel from the Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor police contingents to reinforce the state's manpower.

He said the additional personnel were needed to ensure smooth operations at polling centres and maintain public order throughout the state.

"We will increase our deployment to 3,452 personnel on polling day as we need additional manpower to oversee polling centres and other election-related operations.

"Of the total, about 1,500 personnel will be brought in from outside Melaka, namely from the Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor police contingents," he told reporters at the Machap Jaya nomination centre at Kompleks Japerun here today.

Dzulkhairi said police had deployed 1,159 personnel across the state today to maintain security and manage traffic during the nomination process for all 28 state seats.

He said between 500 and 600 personnel would also be deployed throughout the two-week campaign period to ensure public safety and prevent untoward incidents.

Dzulkhairi also reminded political parties and their supporters to refrain from provocations, particularly those involving sensitive issues related to race, religion and royalty (3R).

He said police would closely monitor social media platforms for inflammatory content, false information, defamatory statements and incitement throughout the campaign period.
