Baywatch reboot releases official trailer and confirms release window

Translate

It's time to don your lifeguard uniform, as Baywatch is back with a brand-new trailer. We also have a premiere date for the rebooted series, with the sunny skies of Los Angeles a welcome distraction in the colder months of the year.

The beloved drama is back on the small screen for the first time in over 25 years, with the final episode of the popular series airing in 2001 after it had been rebranded to Baywatch: Hawaii.

We're heading back to California for the reboot, however, with the new season following Hobie Buchannon (now played by Stephen Amell) as he follows in the footsteps of his father Mitch by being the Baywatch captain.

Hobie gets a shock, however, when his daughter Charlie (Jessica Belkin) shows up in Los Angeles wanting to carry on the family legacy. But with their relationship not being altogether smooth, will they work together?

It has been confirmed that the 12-part season will premiere in the UK on Sky and NOW in January, though there's no exact date yet. We do have a trailer to examine, with the clip beginning as Charlie seeks out Hobie.

Disaster strikes, however, as a plane collides with a parachute. Hobie is soon thrust into action, with the trailer also including plenty of explosions, diving, shirtless men and, of course, slow-motion running.

In addition to Amell and Belkin, the cast for the reboot includes Hassie Harrison, Shay Mitchell, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, Brooks Nader and Livvy Dunne. David Chokachi and Erika Eleniak, meanwhile, will reprise their respective roles from the original series.

As per the logline, fans can expect all "the adrenaline-fuelled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry and beachside heroics that defined the original series", only this time with contemporary trappings, tensions and challenges".

Matt Nix, who has recently created reboots of Turner & Hooch and True Lies, serves as the showrunner, while he also produces alongside McG. The latter, who directed Charlie's Angels, has directed the pilot episode.

The original series ran for 11 seasons and 241 episodes between 1989 and 2001, with a spin-off series, Baywatch Nights, airing between 1995 and 1997. A feature film, which starred Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, was released in 2017.

Baywatch will air on Sky and NOW in the UK from January 2027.
