Magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolts Balut Island in Davao Occidental

Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani in Davao Occidental was shaken by a magnitude 5.2 earthquake early Thursday, October 8, 2026, the state volcanology office said.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the tremor that occurred at 12:42 a.m. was tectonic in origin and was traced 91 kilometers south of Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental.

It has a depth of 93 kilometers.

Intensity 1 was reported in Malita and Malungon towns.

Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected, but no damage has been seen. —LDF, GMA News
