Mister Donut returns to China after seven years

Translate

SHANGHAI – After a seven-year hiatus, Mister Donut has returned to the Chinese market.

Japanese franchise owner Duskin on Monday opened a Mister Donut outlet in Shanghai, the first one following its exit from mainland China in 2019.

The new takeaway outlet is located in a shopping mall in the city. In addition to regular items, the Shanghai store also offers exclusive products, including banana-flavored doughnuts that are popular among locals.

Duskin decided to open the outlet in anticipation of brisk demand, a public relations official said, citing the readiness of the market and the business environment. A local company operates the store under a franchise contract, while Duskin provides the necessary know-how.

A 44-year-old corporate worker who lined up at the new Mister Donut outlet for an hour said she bought strawberry-flavored doughnuts, which she will eat together with her child.

A 28-year-old teacher who bought a Pon De Ring doughnut said she is happy that she can eat the chain’s doughnuts again.
