Translate

After a week of scorching temperatures, Gauteng residents can expect some relief as thunderstorms are forecast across the province in the coming days.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of the country, including Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 29°C, with afternoon thunderstorms forecast. More thunderstorms are expected on Sunday, with an 80% chance of rain.

In Johannesburg, there is a 60% chance of thunderstorms, with temperatures expected to drop to 26°C. However, a lower chance of rainfall is forecast for Sunday.

SAWS spokesperson Lehlohonolo Thobela confirmed that severe weather conditions are expected across Gauteng this weekend.

“We’re still expecting isolated to scattered thunderstorms possible over the central and eastern parts of the country. This would include the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, as well as into Mpumalanga, Gauteng and the eastern parts of the North West.

“Into the central interior and the western parts of the country, expect a Yellow Level 2 warning of severe thunderstorms, but across most parts of the Northern Cape we are expecting some damaging,” said Thobela.
