Impeach court grants request to subpoena BIR, bank, insurance execs


MANILA, Philippines — The Senate impeachment court on Thursday granted the House prosecution panel’s request to subpoena several representatives of banks and insurance companies, as well as the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for the impachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
This came after lead prosecutor and Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro announced that the panel will no longer present former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as a witness in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
It was also announced that only Anti–Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Executive Director Atty. Ronel Buenaventura will be presented on Friday.

“To continue, for Monday, Oct. 5, we will be presenting the BIR, and for Tuesday, Oct. 6, we will be presenting the representatives of banks and insurance companies,” said Luistro.
“And it is in this light your honor that we respectfully reiterate our request for subpoena to the BIR, as well as representatives of banks and insurance companies,” she added.
Based on the prosecution’s request, the order of the bank and insurance company representatives to be presented are as follows:
