CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Oriental Mindoro is celebrating the fourth top-ranking examinee in this year’s Physician Licensure Examination (PLE), who has family roots in Calapan City.

A graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Medicine, Dr. Israel Miña Aguba, who placed fourth in the exam with a 94.75 percent rating, is the son of two respected members of the judiciary: Regional Trial Court Judge Victor Aguba (RTC Branch 255, Las Piñas) and Judge Edith Miña-Aguba (RTC Branch 100, Quezon City).

Judge Victor Aguba is a native of Calapan City, and he completed his elementary and secondary education in public schools here.

In a message on Friday, Judge Aguba expressed joy over his son’s achievement and emphasized the importance of their hometown roots.

“I have always told our children that they have their roots in Calapan City and Pangasinan. I wanted them to claim their roots in Calapan City, where I originated. But my wife is from La Union, so that’s a given,” Judge Aguba said.

Calapan resident Maxine Francesco Gwyneth C. Baculo topped this year’s exam, with a rating of 95.5 percent. This year’s result has the highest passing rate in the PLE’s history.

Dr Aguda earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Basic Medical Sciences under the prestigious INTARMED (Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine) program, graduating Summa Cum Laude.

He completed his Doctor of Medicine degree as Valedictorian, earning the Dr. Gregorio T. Alvior, Jr. Award for Academic Excellence in Medicine and graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was also recognized as an outstanding intern in Family and Community Medicine./coa
