Traditional media must embrace new formats — Fosudo

Digital storyteller and content creator, Fisayo Fosudo

Popular Nigerian visual storyteller, technology and finance content creator, Fisayo Fosudo, has urged traditional media organisations to adopt new media formats, including short videos, reels and carousels, to attract younger audiences.

Fosudo spoke on Thursday in an interview with PUNCH Online on the second day of Moonshot 2026 by TechCabal, held at the National Theatre, Lagos, from October 28 to 29.

He said established media organisations could combine their reputation and legacy with content creation techniques to reach audiences increasingly accustomed to consuming information on social media.

“Traditional media can leverage their brand, legacy and employ the methods of the new media,” he said.

Fosudo identified short videos, reels, carousels and vlogs as formats traditional media organisations could adopt to make their content more appealing to younger audiences.

He said the emergence of new media had provided additional tools and opportunities for media organisations to distribute their content and connect with different audiences.

“Now, there’s new tools, easy adaptation, lower barrier to entry when it comes to the content space,” he said.

According to him, traditional media organisations could use their established brands to build on these opportunities while adapting to changing audience preferences.

He said, “So, things like creating short videos, things like creating reels, things like carousels and all those new media elements, essentially.

“To make content that then speaks to a younger demographic, maybe, or a demographic that is used to new media elements, like maybe even vlogs or certain things like that.”

Fosudo, however, said the relationship between traditional media and content creators should not be viewed solely in terms of one learning from the other, noting that both sectors could benefit from their respective experiences.

“As somebody that studied media innovation, working with traditional media and obviously new media, social media creators, I see that synergy there.

“And I see that there’s a lot of learnings that both platforms can learn from each other,” he said.

Speaking about Moonshot, Fosudo described the conference as important to Nigeria’s technology sector and broader development.

He said the event provided an opportunity to discuss issues beyond technology, including infrastructure, innovation and ideas for the country’s future.

“Very important, very relevant to not just the technology space but infrastructure, innovation, things that have to do with forward-thinking minds and people in Nigeria.

“I think this is very, very crucial and I’m very glad to be here,” he said.

Moonshot is an annual pan-African technology conference organised by TechCabal, a technology media platform under Big Cabal Media.

It brings together technology companies, startups, entrepreneurs, investors, creators and other industry stakeholders to discuss innovation and business development across Africa.

The fourth edition, held from October 28 to 29, 2026, featured discussions on technology, investment, business and innovation.
