2026 U-20 WWC: Falconets Battle England For Quarter-Final Ticket

Nigeria’s Falconets will be aiming to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup when they take on England’s Young Lionesses at the Bielsko-Biała Stadium on Thursday.

The Round of 16 encounter offers Nigeria another chance to advance in the competition and strengthen their bid for a deep run at the tournament.

The Falconets booked their place in the knockout stage in emphatic fashion, thrashing New Caledonia 10-1 in their final Group F fixture.

The commanding victory saw Nigeria finish second in the group behind Spain, following an earlier 2-0 defeat to the European side and a goalless draw against China PR.

Coach Moses Aduku will once again rely on his attacking options, with SL Benfica forward Janet Akekoromowei among the players who impressed during the record-breaking win.

Winner Onajite David stole the spotlight with a hat-trick against New Caledonia, while Ramotalahi Kareem was also on the scoresheet as the Falconets produced a dominant second-half performance to seal their progression in style.

England, meanwhile, reached the Round of 16 after finishing third in Group B behind Brazil. The Young Lionesses began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Canada before securing a convincing 5-1 victory over Tanzania.

They ended the group stage with a 2-1 defeat to Brazil but advanced to the knockout phase after finishing above Canada on goals scored, with both teams level on points.

With both sides now just one victory away from the quarter-finals, Thursday’s encounter promises to be a closely contested and demanding test.

Should Nigeria advance, they will face either hosts Poland or Colombia in the last eight, adding further importance to the clash as the knockout stage gathers pace.
