Jessica Biel & Paramount TV Studios Team On Series Adaptation Of Horror Novel ‘Coffin Moon’

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Television Studios is developing and adapting Keith Rosson’s horror novel Coffin Moon for TV with Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple’s Iron Ocean, through the prodco’s first-look deal with the studio.

The writing and producing team of Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Painkiller) are attached to develop, adapt, and showrun the project. Rosson will serve as a consulting producer.

Coffin Moon is set during a brutal winter in 1975 in Oregon and follows a veteran and his adopted niece as they hunt—and are hunted by—the vampire that slaughtered their family.

The announcement arrives on the same day Random House releases Coffin Moon in paperback. The original novel, which was itself inspired by the Charles Portis novel True Grit, made its debut last September. Rosson is the author of seven novels, including Crone, Fever House, and The Devil by Name. Rosson is represented by UTA and Janklow & Nesbit.

Coffin Moon is the latest collaboration between Paramount Television Studios and Iron Ocean, following the spy thriller The Ambler Warning, based on Robert Ludlum’s bestselling novel, which Deadline announced as being in development last October. Biel is set to star and executive produce The Ambler Warning.

Fitzerman-Blue and Harpster are award winning writers and producers behind Prime Video’s Transparent, and the film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Previously, they served as showrunners and creators of the Netflix series Painkiller about the birth of the opioid crisis, starring Matthew Broderick and Uzo Abuda. Currently, they are adapting The Dress for TriStar with Serena Williams and Ruth Carter producing, and writing/producing the feature adaptation of The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife for Netflix. They are also adapting the feature Skywalkers for Laika and XYZ, based on the Netflix documentary about the infamous rooftopping couple who just got arrested scaling The Empire State Building. Harpster and Fitzerman-Blue are represented by Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment, UTA and Lichter Grossman Nichols.

Biel and Iron Ocean are repped by UTA and LBI Entertainment, with the former also represented by Yorn Levine Barnes.
