Gators coach on being fave vs. Ole Miss: 'Lot of good drugs out there'

Ole Miss is coming off an emotional and cathartic victory over LSU and former coach Lane Kiffin, but sportsbooks seem to think the Rebels are due for a letdown.

One person who thinks that might be a bit farfetched is the coach of Ole Miss' next opponent, Jon Sumrall of the Florida Gators.

"There's a lot of good drugs out there," Sumrall said Monday when informed his 21st-ranked Gators are favored when they host No. 4 Ole Miss on Saturday. DraftKings has Florida as 3.5-point favorites to win.

"I didn't even know the favored deal, but whoever is doing that, I don't know, they haven't watched the tape," said Sumrall, who praised Ole Miss and current Heisman Trophy favorite quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

"They've got the best quarterback in college football, I think. He's a dude," Sumrall said. "They've got a lot of great weapons and so we've got a lot to work on."

Sumrall's team has already been putting in plenty of work. In his first year in Gainesville, Sumrall is one win away from getting Florida off to its first 4-0 start since the 2019 season.

"I did talk to our team about rankings in Week 4 mean nothing," Sumrall said of his team's early success. "The same pats on the back you're getting, if you go out and lay an egg you're gonna get the same hands hitting you in the back, they're just going to have a knife in it. I told our guys ignore all that. The goal is how do we get to 1-0 each week? Well, if we don't do a lot of self-improvement we have no shot this week."

One player that will play a big part in any Florida victory is running back Jadan Baugh. The junior is tied for first in the nation with eight rushing touchdowns and is second with 458 yards on the ground while averaging 8.5 yards per carry.
