Lionel Messi retires from international football in style

Argentina legend Lionel Messi has officially retired from international football, and he signed off in style in the early hours of Wednesday.
Benin visited Argentina for an international friendly which was played at Estadio Mas Monumental in Buenos Aires.
And this was Messi‘s final game for Argentina after he previously announced that he would be retiring from international football.
On the day, the 39-year-old scored a goal and provided two assists as Argentina beat Benin 3-0.

Messi retires having won the FIFA World Cup with Argentina at the Qatar finals in 2022.
He was also instrumental in Argentina reaching the FIFA World Cup final in 2014 which they lost to Germany.
The left-footer retires with a record of 21 goals in 34 FIFA World Cup matches; he featured in six different global showpieces.
Overall, Messi represented Argentina 208 times, scored 126 international goals and provided 69 assists.
He will now focus on his club career with Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Inter Miami.
