The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for all teachers across the state in commemoration of this year’s World Teachers Day.

This directive was contained in a circular issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Musibau Babatunde.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, in Ibadan, the state capital, said, “The declaration reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers, who remain the backbone of the state’s educational system and key drivers of human capital development in Oyo.

“The work-free day is intended to provide teachers with the opportunity to fully participate in activities organised to celebrate their contributions, reflect on progress within the education sector and strengthen unity within the teaching community.”

The government, therefore, congratulated all the teachers on this special occasion and reaffirmed its dedication to policies and programmes that continue to enhance teaching and learning across the state.

Similarly, the Kwara and Ekiti State governments had also declared Monday, October 5, as a work-free day for their teachers, in view of the celebration.
