President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Sunday called on the public to extend the same devotion they show in remembering their late loved ones to the way they treat other people.

The president joined Filipino Catholics and the rest of the country in observing All Saints' Day (Undas) and All Souls' Day this November 1 and 2.

In his message, Marcos called on the Catholic faithful to be inspired by the selflessness of saints.

"We also draw inspiration from the saints, whose devotion found expression in selfless service, and from countless individuals whose sacrifices have sustained our communities. Their lives call on us to make the most of the time entrusted to us, and to find lasting purpose in every kindness we give and every burden we help carry for others," he said.

Further, the president called on everyone to give the same time devoted in honoring the departed to listening to everyone struggling.

"I invite everyone to practice the same devotion we show in remembrance into the way we treat one another. If we can make time to revere those who have passed, we can also make room to listen to those who struggle, and let that same concern guide our society and the work of government. May our efforts in nurturing a Bagong Pilipinas stand as a greater testament to our lives than any words or monuments carved in stone we leave behind," he added.

November 1 and 2 were declared as special non-working holidays.

"Even in their absence, those who have lost continue to bring us closer together, keeping alive the bonds that have made the Filipino family and all the whole nation resilient and strong through challenges," said Marcos.

Marcos earlier said the government is making the necessary preparations to ensure the safe and orderly trip for Filipinos who will head to their respective provinces or travel elsewhere for this year’s Undas. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/KG, GMA News
