The Department of Transportation (DOTr) ordered the suspension of the Passenger Ship Safety Certificate of MV Ocean Jet 788 after it struck a loading dock of the Tagbilaran Port in Bohol on Saturday.

In a social media post on Sunday, DOTr said Secretary Vince Dizon ordered the suspension to the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), as the incident reportedly caused fear and concern among passengers.

According to MARINA, the vessel experienced an electrical failure in its bridge engine control system, resulting in the loss of reverse propulsion.

Due to the incident, the fast craft is prohibited from making further trips until it passes MARINA’s safety inspection and proves it is seaworthy.

The suspension is implemented under the Republic Act. No. 9295 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, and MARINA Memorandum Circular No. MS 2023-01 and the Ship Survey System.
