Agusan school tightens security amid campus violence concerns

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — The Agusan del Sur National High School (ASNHS) has ramped up its campus security measures, including stricter gate inspections and closer coordination with authorities, following recent incidents of violence in schools.

In a public advisory, ASNHS assured parents and the community that it is taking proactive steps to maintain a safe, peaceful, and conducive learning environment for students and school personnel.

The advisory was written in the Bisaya language to ensure that parents and community members who are not fluent in English can easily understand the school’s message.

The move comes amid heightened discussions on school security following the shooting incident at Banga National High School in South Cotabato that left three students dead and six others wounded last week.

On Thursday, school personnel were seen conducting bag inspections at the school entrance as part of ASNHS’s strengthened safety protocols.

The school said it continues to closely coordinate with the Philippine National Police (PNP), School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA), and other concerned authorities to ensure timely and appropriate action on security concerns and possible threats.

ASNHS also established its Internal and External Safety and Security Task Force to further strengthen campus protection, including increased police visibility outside the school.

School officials urged parents, learners, and community members to remain calm and responsible in sharing information, warning against the spread of unverified reports that could create unnecessary fear and confusion.

ASNHS emphasized that the safety and welfare of its learners and personnel remain its top priority, stressing that maintaining a secure learning environment requires the collective cooperation of the school, parents, authorities, and the wider community./coa
