BI pushes MSMEs to join business ecosystems for stronger market access

Bandarlampung, Lampung (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Thomas A.M. Djiwandono stated that the central bank is actively encouraging micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to grow within business ecosystems to strengthen their access to markets.
Speaking in Bandarlampung, Lampung, on Friday, he said that to support sustainable economic growth, BI continues to promote more productive and competitive MSMEs through three strategies: business clustering, capacity building, and expanded access to financing.
He explained that through business clustering, MSMEs are encouraged to move away from operating individually and instead become part of stronger business ecosystems by expanding their market reach, forming clusters, and integrating into broader value chains.
"Through capacity building, Bank Indonesia is encouraging MSMEs to continuously improve product and service quality, managerial skills, and market readiness to reach broader markets, including global markets," he said.
Djiwandono said the policy is being implemented at both the national and regional levels, including through the Bank Indonesia Lampung Representative Office, with a focus on strengthening key regional commodities and flagship products, including bananas, coffee, and textiles.
"By expanding access to financing, Bank Indonesia continues to strengthen synergy with the financial sector so MSMEs can access funding tailored to their operational needs and growth," he said.
In essence, he added, MSMEs need to become more connected, strengthen their business capabilities, and gain easier access to financing.
He further said MSME development must go hand in hand with digitalization, highlighting the need for technology to make MSME operations more efficient, expand their market reach, and connect them to broader economic ecosystems.
For Lampung in particular, he noted that the province has strengths ranging from agriculture to creative products.
"Our challenge is to transform these strengths into value-added products, strengthen production chains, and unlock new business opportunities," he said.
