New skydiving facilities set to open at Tanjung Lesung in December

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Tanjung Lesung Tourism Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Banten, Indonesia, is preparing new aerosport facilities, including skydiving and recreational aviation, which are expected to begin operations in December.

"The main works involve creating a nine-hectare landing zone, extending the aircraft parking area, and building a taxiway," Operational Director of PT Banten West Java (BWJ) Kunto Wijoyo said in a statement released here on Monday.

"The runway will also be extended by 200 meters to ensure safer landings," added Wijoyo, who also serves as the head of Salakanagara Tanjung Lesung Airport.

The project is a collaboration between PT BWJ, the SEZ's developer and operator, and PT Bro Skydive Indonesia. Under the agreement, PT BWJ will provide nine hectares of land, while PT Bro Skydive Indonesia will handle infrastructure construction and equipment provision.

Wijoyo noted that the SEZ already features Salakanagara Airport, which has an airstrip capable of accommodating aerosports activities.

President Director of PT Bro Skydive Indonesia Fanny Kusuma Dewi said construction will begin immediately after the signing of the cooperation agreement. The company expects the facilities to be operational by the second week of December.

"We will try to open before the year-end holidays," Dewi said, adding that the new drop zone will be supported by Salakanagara Airport's existing hangars, as well as the SEZ's existing marine and land-based sports attractions.

President Director of PT BWJ Poernomo Siswoprasetijo expressed optimism that the partnership would be realized swiftly.

He emphasized that sports tourism, supported by local accommodation and Salakanagara Airport, is expected to spark the younger generation's interest in skydiving and other aerosports.

Access to Tanjung Lesung is also set to improve with the completion of the Cileles–Bojong segment of the Serang–Panimbang Toll Road, which is targeted for November.

The entire toll road network is projected to be fully operational by the second quarter of 2027.
