Hannah Einbinder Breaks Out Haley Stevens Impression After Abdul El-Sayed Michigan Victory

Hannah Einbinder made good on her promise to debut an impression of Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens if Abdul El-Sayed won the state’s Senate race on Tuesday night.

Watching the midterm results roll in from a bar, the “Hacks” star promptly posted a video of her Stevens impression following El-Sayed’s victory. “We’re gonna give ’em a little bit of energy, a little bit of pow, a little bit of stick it to ’em, cos that’s the Michigan way!” she says in the clip, shared to her Instagram Story. In a subsequent post, Einbinder celebrated the win, writing, “Mazel tov, Abdul.”

El-Sayed defeated Mike Rogers in Michigan’s closely watched Senate race, becoming the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate. His victory came as Democrats secured control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterms.

The results capped a tumultuous week that began Sunday when Stevens, who narrowly lost Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary to El-Sayed in August, announced she would back his Republican opponent instead.

Stevens subsequently appeared on CNN for an interview with Anderson Cooper, who repeatedly questioned what had prompted the sudden reversal. Her bizarre demeanor and responses quickly circulated online, providing fresh material for late-night hosts including Seth Meyers and Jon Stewart.

Her decision also drew immediate criticism from Michigan Democratic leaders, including state party chair Curtis Hertel, while several members of her congressional staff resigned in protest. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer also condemned the endorsement.

Elsewhere in the midterm race, James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton in Texas, while Democrats also picked up Senate seats in Iowa and Kansas. In Maine, Democrat Troy Jackson unseated longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins.

Democrats also flipped governorships in Texas, Iowa, Ohio and Georgia.
