Translate

LIGAO CITY — Barangay Matacon in Polangui, Albay, has been selected as the site of the second Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campus in the Bicol Region.

In a Nov. 6 letter to Albay Rep. Raymond Adrian Salceda, PSHS System executive director Ronnalee Orteza said the site was chosen following an inspection and evaluation of two proposed properties.

The Philippine Science High School System sought Salceda’s assistance in completing the deed of donation and other requirements for the transfer of the property, as well as in coordinating the campus groundbreaking.

It also called for the creation of a joint technical working group to oversee the project, identify a temporary campus and facilitate the construction of permanent facilities.

Salceda said in an earlier interview that the Albay campus of the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) had been included in the proposed 2027 National Expenditure Program, with an initial allocation of P100 million.

The agency also urged local officials to help promote its National Competitive Examination and encourage gifted elementary pupils in Albay and the rest of Bicol to pursue education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The new campus is expected to expand access to quality STEM education and strengthen research and innovation in the region.
