Indonesia strengthens tourism promotion to boost trips, transactions

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is stepping up efforts to promote Indonesian tourism through travel fairs, sales missions, and business networking events, aiming to increase tourist arrivals and business transactions in the sector.

“This is a great opportunity to introduce Indonesian destinations to international audiences,” Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said while presenting the ministry’s Monthly Performance Report in Jakarta on Friday.

Widiyanti explained that promotional activities held throughout August 2026, including the Australia Sales Mission, BBWI Merdeka Berwisata Travel Fair, Sales Mission Edutrip School Gathering, and Luxury Business Networking, generated potential travel involving 16,877 visitors.

The promotional strategies were tailored to specific market segments, ranging from educational tourism, marine tourism, wellness, and gastronomy to the domestic market and high-end travelers.

The Ministry of Tourism is also implementing various programs to support tourism growth while ensuring that its benefits are more widely shared by local communities.

The ministry has supported the S’RASA (Flavors of Indonesian Spices) initiative, a joint effort involving six ministries and agencies to boost spice exports and enhance Indonesia’s global image through gastrodiplomacy.

During its one-year implementation, business-matching sessions at the Trade Expo Indonesia resulted in agreements to open Indonesian restaurants in Australia, the Netherlands, Italy, and Malaysia.

The Ministry of Tourism continues to strengthen the ecosystem of Indonesian restaurants abroad by providing business owners with access to financing and capacity-building programs.

Meanwhile, the government is improving safety standards to enhance tourism quality. The Ministry of Tourism is implementing the Tourism Safety Improvement Program through Marine Tourism Safety Training.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa said capacity-building activities are being carried out in eight provinces, involving destination managers, tourism awareness groups, tour guides, tourism business operators, coastal communities, and other stakeholders.

The Ministry of Tourism has also begun preparations for the 2027 edition of Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN), a tourism promotion initiative targeting support for 125 events.

“Events are not just about drawing crowds, they strengthen destination identity, attract tourists, involve micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and artists, and generate economic benefits for local communities,” Puspa said.

In addition to regional events, the ministry supports international events, including the “Andrea Bocelli: Romanza 30th Anniversary World Tour” concert, scheduled for October 31, 2026, at Borobudur in Magelang, Central Java, and November 3, 2026, at JIExpo Kemayoran in Jakarta.

The concerts are projected to generate an economic impact of around US$44 million.

Puspa also noted that, as of September 1, 2026, Indonesia had 6,400 tourism villages, which play a significant role in driving tourism growth directly at the community level.

In August, the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with Bank Indonesia, held a capacity-building program for leading Muslim-friendly tourism villages, attended by representatives from 25 tourism villages across five provinces.

The ministry also supported Indonesian Creative Work 2026, which showcased six leading tourism villages and allowed visitors to book travel packages directly.
