What was the bet? Rassie shares pics of bald Springbok staff

Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus has shared more pictures of the coaching staff who were forced to shave their heads after losing a bet.

The 53-year-old sported a buzz cut after the national team won their first Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry against the All Blacks last weekend in Baltimore.

On his Instagram account, Rassie Erasmus has continued to post more pictures of the Springboks coaching staff, all of whom sport shaved heads.

The team is currently in Australia, ahead of their test match against the Wallabies next weekend.

In one pic, Rassie and the crew showed off their “chiskops” as they downed drinks on an evening out.  The pic included the likes of Mzwandile Stick, Tony Brown, Daan Human and even a female – Zeena Isaacs van Tonder.

WHAT WAS THE BET?

On social media, Springbok fans have been speculating about the details of the bet that forced Rassie Erasmus to shave his hair off.

A few theories that make sense include:

• The staff had bet on the Springboks winning all four test matches (South Africa won 3 out of four matches)
• Players bet against the staff on the team winning the series
• A bet that South Africa would retain their number 1 world ranking
• A bet connected to Rassie’s 100th Test as coach

Rassie Erasmus will lead the Springboks into their final stretch of test matches – all of which are away games.

• 27 September: SA vs Australia at the Optus Stadium, Perth, Australia – 11:30 SA time
• 7 November: SA vs Italy at the Alianz Stadium, Turin, Italy – 13:40 SA time
• 13 November: SA vs France at the Stade de France, Paris, France – 22:10 SA time
• 21 November: SA vs Ireland at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland – 18: 40 SA time

The Nations Championship finals weekend runs 27–29 November in Twickenham, England, with the six matches determined by the final standings. South Africa’s opponent and exact day depend on where the Boks finish after the six-round league phase.
