Kitui MCA arraigned over alleged theft of 42 smartphones

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 — Ikanga/Kyatune Ward MCA Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka has been charged with stealing 42 mobile phones worth Sh609,000 from a shop on Nairobi’s Luthuli Avenue.

Musyoka was arraigned before the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court following his arrest on October 22, 2026, and denied the charge.

The prosecution told the court that the alleged theft occurred on August 5, when 42 Itel City 200 smartphones, each valued at Sh14,500, were reportedly stolen from a mobile phone shop owned by Dahir Adan Mohamud.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said investigators had also linked the MCA to two other alleged mobile phone theft incidents in Nairobi in August and September.

The two incidents involved phone consignments valued at Sh1.8 million and Sh420,000, bringing the total value of the three alleged thefts to Sh4,906,050.

Prosecutors opposed his release on bail, citing concerns that he could abscond, including claims that he had previously failed to attend court proceedings.

Investigators separately sought 15 days to detain Musyoka to complete investigations, including recording witness statements, analysing CCTV footage and pursuing suspected accomplices.

Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo ordered that the MCA be held at Kamukunji Police Station pending a further hearing on November 5.

The court is expected to consider the prosecution’s objection to bail and the application seeking additional time to detain him as investigations continue.

Musyoka remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
