Translate

The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, is set to introduce a new matchday schedule featuring Friday night, early Saturday and Sunday kick-offs as part of efforts to enhance the league’s appeal and deliver a more exciting experience for football fans.

The new arrangement will begin with the Matchday 9 encounter between Shooting Stars and Ranchers Bees at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, on Friday, October 16, with kick-off scheduled for 6pm.

The fixture will mark the second time Shooting Stars host an NPFL game on a Friday this season, following their 2-1 victory over Inter Lagos in the opening matchday.

The introduction of Friday night football is expected to add a new dimension to the NPFL matchday experience, providing supporters with an opportunity to enjoy top-flight action at a prime viewing time while potentially increasing match attendance and fan engagement.

With the league traditionally dominated by weekend afternoon fixtures, the new scheduling format is expected to create greater variety and flexibility for supporters, broadcasters and commercial partners.

Early Saturday and Sunday kick-offs will also be introduced as the season progresses, giving the NPFL a more diversified fixture calendar and bringing its matchday presentation closer to the scheduling patterns seen in some of the world’s leading football leagues.

For Shooting Stars, the encounter against Ranchers Bees will provide another opportunity to test the appeal of evening football at the historic Lekan Salami Stadium, with the Ibadan faithful expected to turn out in numbers for what promises to be an engaging Matchday 9 fixture.
