‘The Pitt’ leads Emmy Awards race with 25 nominations, others

Medical drama series The Pitt leads the nominations for the 78th Emmy Awards with 25 nods, ahead of comedy series Hacks, which received 24 nominations.

Horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay has emerged as the early leader at the awards, with eight prizes already won in mainly technical categories ahead of Monday night’s main ceremony in Los Angeles.

PUNCH Online reports that the Emmy Awards are among the highest honours in television, recognising outstanding achievements in acting, writing, directing and production across television and streaming programmes.

Presented annually by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the awards cover drama, comedy, limited or anthology series and other categories, with winners determined through voting by members of the television academy.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards will hold at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, California, on Monday, September 14, 2026. The ceremony will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay.

Widow’s Bay has 19 nominations overall, while Pluribus follows with 18 and Beef with 16.

In the Outstanding Drama Series category, The Diplomat, The Gilded Age, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Paradise, The Pitt, Pluribus, Slow Horses and Your Friends & Neighbors are nominated.

The Outstanding Comedy Series nominees are Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Nobody Wants This, Only Murders in the Building, Shrinking and Widow’s Bay.

The nominees for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series are All Her Fault, The Beast in Me, Beef, DTF St. Louis and Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.

In the drama acting categories, Sterling K. Brown (Paradise), Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (Task), Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat) and Noah Wyle (The Pitt) are nominated for Lead Actor.

The Lead Actress nominees are Carrie Coon (The Gilded Age), Chase Infiniti (The Testaments), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), Rhea Seehorn (Pluribus) and Zendaya (Euphoria).

For comedy, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Wonder Man), Steve Carell (Rooster), Matthew Rhys (Widow’s Bay), Jason Segel (Shrinking) and Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building) are competing for Lead Actor.

The Lead Actress category features Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Elle Fanning (Margo’s Got Money Troubles), Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback) and Jean Smart (Hacks).

In the limited or anthology series or movie category, the Lead Actor nominees are Riz Ahmed (Bait), Jason Bateman (Black Rabbit), Charlie Hunnam (Monster: The Ed Gein Story), Oscar Isaac (Beef) and Matthew Rhys (The Beast in Me).

The Lead Actress nominees are Claire Danes (The Beast in Me), Sally Field (Remarkably Bright Creatures), Carey Mulligan (Beef), Sarah Pidgeon (Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette) and Sarah Snook (All Her Fault).

The Pitt also features prominently in the supporting acting categories, with Patrick Ball, Shawn Hatosy, Gerran Howell and Katherine LaNasa among its nominees.

Other notable supporting nominees include Billy Crudup and Jack Lowden in the drama category; Colman Domingo, Harrison Ford, Michael Urie and Tyler James Williams in comedy; and David Harbour and Linda Cardellini in the limited or anthology series or movie categories.

The awards for supporting actors in a limited series were handed out during the pre-ceremonies.
