The police have arrested a 40-year-old man, Davou Dachung, over the alleged killing of his wife, Jessica Davou, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The police said the suspect allegedly shot his wife in the chest with a locally fabricated firearm following a domestic dispute at their residence in Haita Fwil village, Vwang, Kogot district.

The police public relations officer in the state, Alfred Alabo, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the incident was reported at the Kaduna Vom Divisional Police Headquarters on 20 October.

According to Mr Alabo, the commissioner of police, Ayodeji Faniyan, directed the divisional police officer in charge of the area to mobilise officers to the scene following receipt of the report.

He said the suspect was subsequently arrested, while the victim was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed dead.

The police spokesperson said an initial search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm and live cartridges.

Mr Alabo added that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
