No. 29: Ofer Yannay: A leader in renewable energy and innovation
In recent years, renewable energy has been a major source of innovation in Israel. Founded in 2011 by entrepreneur Ofer Yannay, Nofar Energy specializes in renewable energy projects, having placed solar panels on thousands of roofs across hundreds of communities, especially on kibbutzim.
Once valued at around one billion dollars, the company has since grown into a global player operating across Israel, Europe, the United States, and Brazil, and generating more than 3,000 megawatts of renewable energy. Yannay – who now also serves as group CEO alongside founder and chairman – told the Jerusalem Post Conference in June 2026 that Nofar had tripled in value over the past year and had just entered its first AI energy project in Israel, extending a track record of pioneering new fields, from Israel’s first floating solar arrays to large-scale energy storage.
Yannay owns Hapoel Galil Elyon and Hapoel Tel Aviv BC
Yannay is the owner of Hapoel Galil Elyon and Hapoel Tel Aviv BC. After the club won its first-ever EuroCup title in 2025, he led Tel Aviv to its debut in the EuroLeague – the highest level of European basketball – for the 2025-2026 season. He also serves on the advisory committee of the Or Ofir Foundation, dedicated to developing future leaders of Israel.
The foundation’s namesake, Ofir Libstein, served as head of the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council until his murder by Hamas in the Kfar Aza massacre. Beyond his businesses, Yannay chairs the Yannay Foundation, which supports causes spanning education, healthcare, and foster families.
