Wembley Sports Construction Chief Executive Officer Robert Coleman has rewarded JoySports journalist Nathaniel Attoh with GHC 50,000 following his emergence as the 2026 Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Sports Journalist of the Year.

Coleman announced the cash gift at the 30th GJA Awards ceremony in Accra on Saturday, November 7, in recognition of Attoh's outstanding contribution to sports journalism.

Attoh, affectionately known as Citizen Attoh, beat Media General's Bill Eshun to win the prestigious award, earning recognition for his documentary, The Audacious Leap.

The documentary, which premiered on JoyNews on May 19, 2025, tells the story of Ghanaian para-athlete Gilbert Ampiah and his determination to overcome physical challenges to pursue his athletics ambitions.

At the time of production, Ampiah was a 16-year-old student at St Augustine's College in Cape Coast, where he was making remarkable progress as a high jumper despite being born with a leg deformity.

For the documentary, Attoh visited the school and spoke to people who had played important roles in the teenager's development, including his father, teachers, trainers and colleagues.

Ampiah has since established himself as one of Ghana's promising junior para-athletes, with ambitions of competing at the highest level internationally.

His training performances ahead of the 2025 inter-schools competition attracted widespread attention on social media, bringing greater visibility to his talent and determination.

Among his notable achievements was clearing 1.60 metres at Ekumfi Atwa in 2023, where he competed against able-bodied athletes. He later set a personal best of 1.82 metres at the inter-house competition at St Augustine's College.

His progress has also extended to the international stage, where he won bronze in the High Jump T44 category at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

Ampiah cleared 1.73 metres to secure his first international medal.

Attoh's recognition continues JoySports' remarkable run at the GJA Awards, with the journalist becoming the third consecutive winner from the Multimedia Group's sports desk.

He follows Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, who won the Sports Journalist of the Year award in 2024 and 2025.
