Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with US President Donald Trump on Saturday about US negotiations with Iran and pressed Trump to strike Iran immediately after the midterm elections, Axios reported on Sunday night, citing one Israeli and one US source.

The sources said that Trump is currently looking to let negotiations play out while Netanyahu wants to return to combat.

Trump confirmed that he had spoken to Netanyahu while speaking to reporters on Sunday, and that they had discussed Iran but declined to share any further details.

"We had a very good conversation,” Trump said.

Trump told reporters that negotiations with Iran were "going fine" on Saturday, days after Vice President JD Vance sent a letter to Iran's national security chief Mohsen Rezaei about negotiations.

US increases presence in Middle East

However, The Jerusalem Post has learned that some of Trump's team is shifting back towards attacking Iran after other methods have been tried to obtain Iranian concessions.

The US has also increased its military presence in the region, sending more than 10 military transport aircraft to Israel over the past week. Reports have also emerged of US air defense systems and interceptors being moved to Israel and to other Arab allies.
