Gizela Tetteh-Agbotui confident NDC will retain Awutu Senya West parliamentary seat

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizela Tetteh-Agbotui, says she is confident the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will retain the constituency in the next general election, despite the election of an NPP regional chairman from the area.
Dr Kwabena Essibu, who hails from Senya Breku in the constituency, was recently elected Central Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During the NDC constituency executive elections, Ms Tetteh-Agbotui dismissed concerns that Dr Essibu’s election could improve the NPP’s chances of winning the parliamentary seat.
She said the NDC would continue working to protect the seat, which she described as an important electoral hold for the party.
Ms Tetteh-Agbotui disclosed that she had personally congratulated Dr Essibu on his election but told him she was determined to retain the constituency for the NDC.
“In fact, when Prof. Essibu won the regional election, I called him. I told him, ‘Prof. congratulations, but this seat, you are not taking it anywhere’. So as a party we will continue to work very hard to protect what we have fought for,” she said.
The MP also urged NDC members to maintain unity following the constituency executive elections.
She called on the newly elected executives to work hard to strengthen the party’s structures and mobilise members ahead of the next general election.
Her comments come as both the NDC and NPP continue to organise their internal structures and position themselves for future electoral contests.
