Wage order raising NCR minimum pay by P60 takes effect

MANILA, Philippines — Wage Order No. 28 took effect starting Saturday, Sept. 26, raising the minimum wage in Metro Manila by P60 for workers in both the nonagricultural and agricultural sectors.

Under the new wage order, the daily minimum wage for nonagricultural workers increased from P695 to P755, while agricultural workers will receive P718 from the previous P658.

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board-National Capital Region issued the wage order following consultations among representatives of labor, employers and the government, in accordance with the tripartite wage-setting system.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded employers to comply with the new wage rates and said it would monitor and enforce compliance.

Wage Order No. 28 comes after the implementation of the previous wage order was delayed.

Wage Order No. 27 provided for an P85 increase in the NCR minimum wage in two tranches—P60 starting July 15 and the remaining P25 in January 2027.

Its implementation was halted by a temporary restraining order issued by a Pasig City court after contractors Readycon Training & Construction Corp. and R-II Builders Corp. filed a petition challenging the wage order. /mr
