Minimum wage in Central Visayas to rise by P42 per day

CEBU CITY — Minimum wage earners in Central Visayas will receive a P42 daily wage increase, while domestic workers or kasambahays in the region will get a P500 monthly increase, Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino announced on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Tolentino, chairperson of the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), said the commission convened in this city for the first time to approve the new wage order, which had earlier been unanimously approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Central Visayas (RTWPB-7) following three days of deliberations on Sept. 11, 12 and 14.

Under the new wage order, minimum wage earners in Class A areas, covering the expanded Metro Cebu area from Carcar City in southern Cebu to Danao City in the north, will receive a minimum wage of P582 per day, up from the current P540.

Workers in Class B areas, covering areas outside expanded Metro Cebu in Cebu province as well as Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, will receive P542 per day, up from P500.

Negros Oriental and Siquijor remain under the jurisdiction of RTWPB-7 because the newly established Negros Island Region has yet to convene its regional wage board, Tolentino said.

For domestic workers, the minimum monthly wage will increase to P7,500, from the current P7,000.

The new wage order will take effect on Oct. 14, 2026, or 15 days after its scheduled publication on Monday, Sept. 28.

Tolentino said the P42 daily increase translates to about P1,092 more per month and is expected to benefit more than 300,000 minimum wage earners across the four provinces.

He said the wage increase was approved unanimously after the board considered the prevailing economic conditions in Central Visayas. /das
