The Bank Job, the "wonderful" British heist thriller starring local favourites Jason Statham and Daniel Mays, has landed a new streaming home in the UK. Released in 2008, the project is one of the most acclaimed works in Statham's filmography.

Directed by Roger Donaldson, the movie sees Statham portray Terry Leather, a reformed criminal who has traded his former life for honest living as he becomes a car dealer. That all changes, however, when ex-girlfriend Martine comes back into his life.

She comes with a new job offer, and suggests that they put together a team to rob a bank. Terry is torn by the allure of his old life and his quest for peace, while getting roped in with a band of criminals presents another form of danger.

What did critics and viewers say about The Bank Job?

The Bank Job was generally praised by critics, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting a solid approval rating of 79% from 142 reviews. In fact, it's Statham's third-highest rated film, with only Spy (94%) and Furious 7 (81%) having better scores.

"Blending suspense, humour, period detail, interesting characters and bringing together a complex plot in an immensely satisfying way, Donaldson really pulled one off this time," said The Seattle Times.

"The Bank Job engages us fully with a tale that's well-fashioned more than anything else, a fascinating study of morality at several levels of English society, and of honour, or the lack of it, among implausibly likable thieves," noted The Wall Street Journal.

On IMDb, the heist thriller has a similarly-impressive rating from viewers, with the user score being 7.2/10 from 197,000 logs. In an 8/10 review, one user praised the performances of the cast and the "brilliant pay off", while another called it "a wonderful example of a heist movie as only the British can make them".

"It is a great bank caper film with lots of parallel plots and plot twists... I found the film to be thoroughly entertaining without requiring lots of mental input or intense concentration," another wrote.
