Kaduna senator builds ICT centre to bridge digital divide

The senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Katung, has said his decision to construct a 700-capacity Information and Communication Technology and Computer-Based Test centre in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, is aimed at bridging the digital divide and equipping youths in the southern part of the state with relevant skills for the modern economy.

Katung stated this on Saturday while inspecting the ongoing project, stressing that the facility would provide students and young people in the area with access to computers and modern technology.

He said, “I decided to bring this project here because our young people, especially our students, need to be exposed to the use of computers and modern technology.

“This facility will provide them with the opportunity to acquire ICT skills that will be useful to them in their education and future careers.”

The senator expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the project site but charged the contractors to adhere strictly to the specifications and complete the facility within the stipulated 12-month timeframe.

“I am impressed with the pace and quality of work that I have seen here. But I want to challenge the contractors to adhere strictly to the contractual agreement and ensure that this project is delivered within the stipulated 12 months,” he said.

According to Katung, the centre, when completed, will serve as a CBT facility for examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, West African Examinations Council and other examination bodies.

He added that the facility would also serve as a hub for digital learning, innovation and skills development for youths across the eight local government areas in the senatorial district.

Katung said the project was part of his efforts to provide infrastructure and opportunities that would improve the educational and economic prospects of his constituents.

He urged the people of Kaduna South to continue to support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the developmental programmes of the Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.

Conducting the senator around the project site, the Site Engineer, Haruna Daniel, described the facility as one of the largest ICT centres being developed in the country.

Daniel said the contractors were committed to delivering a quality project within the agreed timeframe.

He stated, “When completed, this centre will be one of the biggest ICT centres in the country.

“We are committed to delivering quality work and completing the project within the stipulated timeframe.”

The inspection formed part of Katung’s routine monitoring of constituency projects facilitated for residents of the Kaduna South Senatorial District.
