Netflix Reveals Trailer For ‘Hunting Gary Glitter’ Crime Docuseries

The three-part series follows the investigative reporters and police investigators who were instrumental in holding the rocker accountable for his sex abuse crimes

Netflix has released its first trailer for Hunting Gary Glitter, an investigative docuseries into the disgraced glam rocker’s history of sexually abusing minors. 

“It seems to me that when you’re in the public eye, you don’t have secrets anymore,” an interviewer asks the musician, whose legal name is Paul Gadd, in an archival interview used in the trailer. “Yeah, well, I’ve still got a few secrets,” he replies. 

The singer was a popular British glam rocker in the 1970s and sang numerous hits like “Do You Wanna Touch Me” and “I Love You Love Me Love.” (His song “Rock N’ Roll, Part 2” appears in the now-famous scene in Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker (2019) where the mentally-ill comic book villain flounces down the stairs in full costume, representing his embrace of his new persona.) 

But in 1999, Gadd’s popularity was derailed by numerous allegations of child sexual abuse and subsequent conviction for possession of child pornography. Later, in 2006, he was jailed in Vietnam for the sexual abuse of two girls. In 2015, he was convicted of sexually abusing three additional young girls. In 2023, he was released for a short time on probation before being reincarcerated. Police did not publicly say how he violated the terms of his release. 

Hunting Gary Glitter follows the investigative reporters and police investigators who were instrumental in publicizing Glitter’s crimes — including how the rocker used his popularity and fanbase to pursue and abuse multiple girls. According to the trailer, the docuseries also uses first-person interviews to detail Glitter’s original convictions and years hopping from country to country, including Vietnam, Cuba, and Cambodia to avoid prosecution and jail time.

Glitter’s allegations have not slowed down while he’s been in prison. Most recently, in the midst of a 16-year-sentence for the sexual abuse of minors, Gadd was charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under age 13 and three counts of indecent ​assault on a girl under 14. These alleged attacks took place between 1978 and 1981, the BBC reports, but victims came forward as late as 2025. “Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so,” Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Bethan David said in a statement at the time. 

The three-part crime docuseries is directed by Sebastian Smith (Locked Up Abroad, The Devil on Trial) and will be released on Oct. 14 on Netflix.
