Digital content creator, Destiny Osarewinda, popularly known as DEZNY, has earned a nomination for Best Digital Content Creator at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, marking a milestone in his years of creating online entertainment.

With more than two million followers across social media platforms, DEZNY’s journey into digital storytelling began with church and school performances before he ventured into producing content for online audiences.

Rather than relying on a viral moment to establish his presence, the creator has spent years developing his craft, writing stories, filming scenes and editing videos independently.

Since around 2015, he has been actively involved in different aspects of production, an experience that has helped him develop his creative style and understand the demands of digital storytelling.

His interest in providing opportunities for other young talents also led to the creation of YEC TV, a platform he established during secondary school to encourage young people to explore acting, music and dance.

The initiative provided an avenue for aspiring creatives to showcase their abilities while giving DEZNY experience in organising creative activities and working with other performers.

Although some participants eventually moved on, he continued pursuing his interest in entertainment, later extending his creative work to YouTube and other social media platforms.

His productions have since attracted a growing audience, with relatable situations and carefully developed narratives forming part of his approach to content creation.

One example is Marriage List, a project that required more than a month of preparation before filming commenced.

According to the profile of his creative process, he wrote the story in full before production and researched cultural elements featured in the narrative, including Umu’Ada and traditional beads. The process involved asking questions and learning about practices with which he was not entirely familiar.

Beyond acting and filmmaking, DEZNY has a background in music, plays musical instruments and has participated in choirs. These experiences have contributed to his understanding of rhythm and emotional expression, which he brings to his storytelling.

His military school training also forms part of his personal background.

The AMVCA nomination places his work within the growing recognition of digital content creators in African entertainment, where social media platforms have created opportunities for independent storytellers to reach audiences beyond conventional film and television channels.

For DEZNY, the recognition follows years of working with limited resources, experimenting with different ideas and developing his skills through consistent production.

From his early performances and the establishment of YEC TV to building an audience of more than two million followers, his career reflects a gradual progression in digital entertainment.

The nomination marks a new chapter for the creator, whose work continues to draw attention to the role of online storytelling in shaping contemporary African entertainment.
